Honoring All Veterans

Les Rose, left, and Jay Via, who served in Afghanistan at different times, decided to run more than 13 miles with an American flag, Monday, November 11, 2013, in Troy, Ohio. "We're doing it to honor all veterans," Rose said.

John 15 NKJV 13 Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends.

The American's Creed

I believe in the United States of America as a government of the people, by the people, for the people, whose just powers are derived from the consent of the governed; a democracy in a republic; a sovereign Nation of many sovereign States; a perfect Union, one and inseparable; established upon those principles of freedom, equality, justice, and humanity for which American patriots sacrificed their lives and fortunes.

I therefore believe it is my duty to my country to love it, to support its Constitution, to obey its laws, to respect its flag, and to defend it against all enemies.

Backfire

An Associated Press report last week revealed The Ohio State University President Gordon Gee, said Notre Dame was not allowed to join the Big Ten because its leaders weren't good partners. He said its Roman Catholic priests were "holy hell" on days other than Sunday and joked "those damn Catholics" can't be trusted.

The most useful words we can live by are right in front of us in The Bible. If only we wouldn't allow our flesh to speak for us.

Ephesians 4 NLT
29 Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.

Sometimes things are better left unsaid.

FEBRUARY Photo of the Month

MY HONORABLE MENTION
The ground is level at the Cross.

Picture was inappropriate

To the Editor:

It was nice to see the community of Troy come together and support the new Hobart Community Kitchen at the recent ground breaking ceremony. I would like to thank all who were involved in this project.

Thank you to ITW, all the contributors and the Soup Kitchen Board, who are investing in the future of our city. Their contributions and hard work will improve the lives of those in need at this time of their lives.

It was very unfortunate that the Troy Daily News decided to publish on the front page people protesting this new kitchen and not showing the people inside the tent who were focused on helping our community.

It could have used the space to show a picture of the new building, which would have been a positive thing.

I hope the people against the Hobart Community Kitchen never need a helping hand, but if they do, they will then realize what a great job Troy is doing for the less fortunate.

Happy Ever After – To All Couples

Remember this:
Affection, Conversation, Honesty and Openness, Financial Support and Family Commitment

We should honor our wives when we are with them and when our backs are turned! Always!

Matthew 19 NLT
4 "Haven’t you read," he replied, "that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,’ 5 and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’? 6 So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate."

1 Peter 3 MSG
Be good wives to your husbands, responsive to their needs. There are husbands who, indifferent as they are to any words about God, will be captivated by your life of holy beauty. What matters is not your outer appearance—the styling of your hair, the jewelry you wear, the cut of your clothes—but your inner disposition. 5–6 Cultivate inner beauty, the gentle, gracious kind that God delights in. The holy women of old were beautiful before God that way, and were good, loyal wives to their husbands. Sarah, for instance, taking care of Abraham, would address him as "my dear husband." You'll be true daughters of Sarah if you do the same, unanxious and unintimidated. 7 The same goes for you husbands: Be good husbands to your wives. Honor them, delight in them. As women they lack some of your advantages. But in the new life of God's grace, you're equals. Treat your wives, then, as equals so your prayers don't run aground.
